Manu Year 0-2 The Birds

Nga Manu team is where your child's learning journey starts.  As your child settles into our junior nest they will be supported by teachers, classmates and older buddies.  Our focus is on making academic progress whilst developing our school's core values of resilience, respect and responsibility as well as building friendships.  We value a strong partnership between home and school.

The Nest children enjoyed making healthy iceblocks this term. As the weather is getting warmer, these iceblocks were a real treat in helping us to cool down! We are an Enviroschool, so the children were also proud to make them wrapper free.

Art Gallery Trip

November 09, 2020

The Year 0-2 Team travelled to the Auckland Art Gallery where they explored portraiture and Maori art. They had an absolute blast, learnt so much about the art there and also got to create their own. We value trips out of school to further extend and enhance our learning at Waitakere Primary School.

Problem Solving Trios

March 09, 2020

The children work in trios to solve problems. This particular problem was delivered by Captain Fraction! The children had to use fractions to share the jellybeans onto Captain Fractions cake. If they couldn't solve it, then Captain Fraction said he would come and steal all their jellybeans. Luckily the children are very, very clever.

Discovery Learning

August 07, 2019

Discovery Learning is an activity-based programme that is held weekly in our junior classrooms. It provides well planned, structured hands-on experiences where students direct their own learning, participate in new experiences, extend existing skills and work cooperatively.

Our learning through guided participation and observation of others encourages children to problem-solve creatively and gives them opportunities to encounter new challenges.

We are delighted to bring this exciting learning to our Waitakere kids.

If you would like any further information about this programme or would like to join us with your creative ideas, please contact your child’s teacher.

Grandparent's Day

May 05, 2019

The children had an absolute blast with their Grandparents at school for the day. We first wrote a letter inviting our Grandparents along and we received some replies in the post too which was so exciting!

The Grandparents came in to spend a day in the classroom with the students, learning, being shown around the classroom, exploring the book fair and more.

In this photo, the Grandparents are helping the children to build a bridge for the Three Billy Goats Gruff as the nasty Troll broke their one! They sent a letter asking us all to help.

The Year 1 & 2 students participated in a TRYathlon at school this term. The children started with a swim, followed by a bike or scooter course and finished off with a challenging run.

All of the children did amazingly well and showed off their resilience. Our special school community was involved in the afternoon too, with loads of parents there to support and our senior students helping our juniors complete all aspects of the TRYathlon.

The children had so much fun they were asking to do it again and again!
