Te Moana Year 3-4 The Ocean

In Te Moana team, Year 3 and 4 students continue to build the skills needed to become responsible Waitākere learners. They begin to develop their independence whilst learning to work collaboratively with their peers and teachers across the team. Students are encouraged to celebrate their unique identity and develop their sense of belonging within the school, focusing on how they can make a difference within their classroom, the school and the wider community.

In Te Moana, our Year 3 and 4 students are supported by a collaborative team of teachers who work closely together to ensure every child is known, valued, and challenged to reach their full potential. Our teachers work across learning spaces, sharing expertise and responding to the diverse needs of our tamariki so that all learners can experience success and feel a strong sense of belonging.

We pride ourselves on creating nurturing, positive learning environments where students feel safe, supported, and connected. At the same time, we maintain high expectations for both learning and behaviour, encouraging students to take responsibility for their actions, persevere through challenges, and strive to be the best versions of themselves.

As students continue their journey as Waitākere learners, they further develop the school values of respect, responsibility, and resilience. We celebrate each child's unique identity and culture through inclusive and culturally responsive practices that ensure every student feels seen, valued, and respected. Our tamariki are encouraged to take pride in who they are, appreciate the perspectives of others, and contribute positively to their learning community.

There are many memorable highlights throughout the Te Moana years. Students look forward to our biannual Year 3-4 camp, where they challenge themselves, build resilience, strengthen friendships, and live our school values beyond the classroom. Other special events include our annual poetry recital competition and our end-of-year learning celebration, where we showcase student learning and celebrate the achievements of our Year 4 learners as they prepare to take the exciting next step into senior school.

We are proud of the caring, inclusive, and engaging environment we provide in Te Moana and value the strong partnerships we build with whānau to support every child on their learning journey.
