Te Moana Year 3-4 The Ocean

In Te Moana team, Year 3 and 4 students continue to build the skills needed to become responsible Waitākere learners. They begin to develop their independence whilst learning to work collaboratively with their peers and teachers across the team. Students are encouraged to celebrate their unique identity and develop their sense of belonging within the school, focusing on how they can make a difference within their classroom, the school and the wider community.

In the Year 3-4 team, our tamariki continue to build on their knowledge of the Waitākere school values of respect, responsibility and resilience using them as a tool in their everyday school life.

Students are encouraged to ignite their curiosity by asking relevant questions and enjoy learning experiences that are meaningful and engaging. They develop an increased awareness of what they are learning, why they are learning it, as well as where their learning might take them.

In the Year 3-4 team children develop their confidence with digital technologies, using iPads and laptops as a learning tool in a variety of curriculum areas and as a means to share their learning with whānau.

We are very proud to offer our tamariki the opportunity to join Tahurangi junior kapa haka. We practice on a weekly basis alongside our te reo Māori programme. Our students enjoy performing to a range of audiences throughout the school year.

Every even year, students are given the opportunity to attend a two-night camp at Carey Park, where they develop life skills and live our school values. This is an opportunity for Year 4 students to build courage and show their leadership qualities in preparation for senior school.
